The premise seems like a good idea, but the surprise twist at the end made me shake my head. The big secret feels like a grasping attempt at conflict.

I have a fondness for Disney Channel and ABC Family original movies, so when I compare Shooting Stars to those movies, it's a good thing. It wormed its way right into my heart.

Jo's good at being a paparazza. With her incognito photography gadgets, and her pint-sized appearance, it's easy for her to sneak the shots that no one else can get. Her talent is hardly a surprise-- her father's about as big as a paparazzo can get in in the biz-- but if she had the money to quit and take photography classes, she'd drop the game in a heartbeat. Still her morality fights her when she'd offered a big job to spy on her favorite celebrity at a special kind of rehab center. Is the money worth exposing someone who's done no wrong?

Shooting Stars is a little slow to start off. The focus is almost solely on Jo and her career as a paparazza. Where the book really starts to shine is after Jo arrives at Ned's exclusive retreat, where she's forced not only to develop friendships, but to take a closer look at her own issues.

I don't want to spoil anything by telling you what Ned is up to at the retreat, but Rushby totally surprised me. I spent a lot of the book guessing about what was up with him and though I came close once or twice, most of my guesses were way off! I also loved how things are pulled together in a tidy little bow at the end.

Shooting Stars was a fun and light contemporary read. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more U.S. YA releases from Rushby in the future.

Josephine Foster, daughter of paparazzi royalty, can pap with the best of them. In fact, armed with her handy faux-iPod camera and sneaky sunglasses cam, little Zo-Jo is the best stealth celebrity stalker (I mean paparazzo) in the business. But she's not happy with the dirty world of underhanded tactics. All she really wants is to get enough money to do the portrait photography course she's got her heart set on and leave the business of snapping celebrities to someone else.

When Jo is offered the opportunity to get all the remaining money she needs in one job, she's not as eager to accept as one might expect. That's because her client wants her to spy and take photos of singer-songwriter Ned Hartnett - the celebrity who showed her kindness a few years ago and has held a special place in Jo's heart ever since.

After reluctantly taking the job of going undercover in the rehab facility in Boston for teens with non-substance abuse kind of issues, Jo is having a moral dilemma. Ned doesn't recognize her but Jo is falling even further for the star with every passing day. Doe she betray the boy she is starting to really care about or does she take the chance to finally get out of the game for good and take the money and the photos?

I enjoyed reading this book. Last night I couldn't sleep so I picked up my copy and started reading. Before I knew it, I was over three-quarters of the way in and by that stage I couldn't stop before the end. It is a fun read. From the start I enjoyed being privy to Jo's life as a paparazzo and just what it entailed for her.

It's a little cheesy in places and there were some parts that I sort of found a little unbelievable but this is not real life - it is a novel - and I found it very entertaining. I did feel a little cheated by the ending. This whole novel revolves around Jo and how she's not quite all she seems. She goes to the retreat as a way to get close to Ned but whilst she's there we see that she has some real issues of her own that she needs to deal with. I felt like that part of the story was glossed over a little. I know it's not a deep and meaningful book but it seemed like we had the big reveal and then it wasn't really addressed in a way I was satisfied with.

There is a lot to like about this story the characters are entertaining and there were a few complete surprises in terms of the plot. I enjoyed the journey the author took me on.

In many ways this reminded me of a Meg Cabot novel (Teen Idol in particular) and I recommend it for anyone who appreciates teen stories where the hero is a bit of a heart-throb celebrity.

I’m a little disappointed with this book, honestly. It was just a lot more immature, or Disney, than I thought it would be.

It had a lot of potential, I thought. Jo is a paparazzi, and she ends up going under cover to follow this famous guy into rehab. There’s a lot of potential there. Some darker stuff could happen, but instead the rehab ended up just being a get-away where the people get through their problems, but none of them have ever really done anything bad. And then there’s a surprise with Ned, the famous guy, which I wasn’t expecting but did like.

I didn’t particularly care for Jo. I was even majorly embarrassed for her at one point, when she made a scene. Ned was nice. Jo makes a friend at rehab, and I liked the girl. But there wasn’t that much development for the characters, in my opinion. Not enough to really get my emotions going.

The problems with Ned, and with Jo’s father, were handled rather easily, almost in a Disney-like fashion, in their simplistically unrealistic way.

The writing was the worst part for me, though. It was just too simple. The descriptions weren’t that great, the words used were all extremely simple. The overuse of paparazzi/paparazzo got on my nerves really fast. It didn’t pull me in even slightly.

Overall, this was a really simple book, and I didn’t really get anything out of it. The only thing that sticks out to me is the surprise with Ned.
This was good. Nothing spectacular or fantastic. A quick and easy read. If you're looking for something to read on a trip by car or airplane, this is it.
Shooting Stars is truely inspired! I loved this book. It was written brilliantly and believably. I felt like I was Jo despising myself for what I was doing. It brought me back to highschool in a querky fun way!
